Football career

Early career

Meggiorini started his career at Bovolone, a team from his native Verona Province.

In the summer of 2003, Meggiorini moved, on loan, to Internazionale, making the move permanent the following summer.[3]

He made his Serie A debut on 14 November 2004, against Cagliari Calcio.

In January 2005, he left on loan to Spezia of Serie C1, along with Hernán Paolo Dellafiore. In the summer of the same year, he moved to Pavia, also in Serie C1. In January 2006, he moved to Cittadella, another Serie C1 team.[4] He loan was extended in July 2006[5] and he was bought by Cittadella in co-ownership deal in summer 2007, for €40,000,[6] and won promotion to Serie B in June 2008.

Genoa

In June 2009, Meggiorini was bought back by Inter,[7], for €2.5 million[8] but transferred to Genoa C.F.C. as part of the Diego Milito and Thiago Motta deal, transferred to Genoa along with Robert Acquafresca (€9.5M),[9] Leonardo Bonucci (valued €3 million)[10] and Francesco Bolzoni (valued €3 million).[10][11] Additionally, half of the registration rights of Ivan Fatic was also transferred to Genoa from Inter and another half remained at Chievo. Meggiorini himself was valued €5 million at that time.[10]

He was transferred to Bari on 2 July 2009 along with Bonucci, Matteo Paro (loan), Andrea Ranocchia (loan) and Giuseppe Greco (loan) in another co-ownership deal, which the 50% registration rights of Bonucci Meggiorini were valued €1.75 million and €2.75 million respectively, made a profit of €0.5 million for just a few days.[10]

On 26 June 2010, he was bought back by Genoa as the Liguria side made a higher bid than Bari in a closed tender,[12] for €1.79 million. (It also made Genoa registered a financial loss of €0.96 million as the "market" value of retained half was dropped from €2.75M to €1.79 million in June.)[13] Four days later, Genoa was reported to have agreed with Chievo to swap Meggiorini for goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.[14] However, the deal collapsed.

On 9 July 2010, he was sold to Bologna in another co-ownership deal,[15] for €3 million.[16] It made Genoa registered a profit of €2.42 million (€6 million minus €3.58M).[13] Despite not a solid member of starting XI, he also made 3 assists, tied the team record with Diego Pérez.

The following year Genoa bought back Meggiorini again but left for another side, Serie A newcomer Novara in temporary deal, as the club had sold its flagship striker Pablo Andrés González and Cristian Bertani. Bologna also had to re-use the transfer credit on another Genoa player Federico Rodriguez, made Bologna did not receive any cash, but a loan of Acquafresca.
